KOWYAS Skill Development Institute

KOWYAS Skill Development Institute is a significant initiative established under the skill development and employment-oriented education mission of the KOWYAS organization. With over four decades of active contribution in the social sector, KOWYAS received approval from the Government of Maharashtra in September 2018 to start a two-year paramedical course - Diploma in Physiotherapy.

This program has emerged as an important educational initiative for the Konkan region, serving the districts of Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Raigad. Launched on 1st October, the course has opened new opportunities for students to enter the healthcare and medical sector.

In today’s context, physiotherapy plays a crucial role in managing conditions such as paralysis, cerebral palsy, musculoskeletal disorders, spinal issues, and obesity. Keeping this in mind, the institute focuses on providing practical and employment-oriented training to students.

The curriculum includes key subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, Electrotherapy, Biomechanics, Exercise Therapy, Orthopedic Neurology, Medical and Surgical Conditions, and English Communication. In addition, students are offered exposure to selective subjects such as Psychology, Economics, Business Mathematics, Entrepreneurship, Physical Biology, Applied Science, and Computer Systems.

Training is conducted under the guidance of experienced physiotherapists and expert mentors, ensuring that students gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience.

The minimum eligibility for this course is completion of 10th standard. After completing the two-year diploma program, students have multiple opportunities for higher education and employment.

Graduates can work in multispecialty private and government hospitals, healthcare centers, and rehabilitation facilities. They may also pursue careers as trainers in gyms and fitness centers.

In terms of higher education, students may receive direct admission into the second or third year of bachelor’s degree programs, depending on eligibility. The course also opens pathways to further paramedical degree programs.

कोवॅस स्किल डेव्हलपमेंट इन्स्टिट्यूट हे कोवॅस संस्थेच्या कौशल्यविकास आणि रोजगाराभिमुख शिक्षणाच्या ध्येयातून सुरू झालेले महत्त्वपूर्ण उपक्रम आहे. गेली चार दशके सामाजिक क्षेत्रात कार्यरत असलेल्या कोवॅस संस्थेला महाराष्ट्र शासनाकडून सप्टेंबर २०१८ मध्ये डिप्लोमा कोर्स इन फिजिओथेरपिस्ट हा दोन वर्षांचा पॅरामेडिकल अभ्यासक्रम सुरू करण्याची मान्यता मिळाली.

रत्नागिरी, सिंधुदुर्ग आणि रायगड या तीन जिल्ह्यांसाठी हा कोकणातील एक महत्त्वपूर्ण शैक्षणिक उपक्रम ठरला. १ ऑक्टोबरपासून सुरू झालेल्या या अभ्यासक्रमामुळे विद्यार्थ्यांना वैद्यकीय आणि आरोग्य क्षेत्रात प्रवेश करण्याची नवी संधी उपलब्ध झाली आहे.

आजच्या काळात पॅरालिसिस, मेंदूचा पक्षाघात, हाडे आणि स्नायूंचे विकार, मणक्याच्या तक्रारी तसेच लठ्ठपणा यांसारख्या समस्यांमध्ये फिजिओथेरपीची भूमिका अत्यंत महत्त्वाची आहे. या पार्श्वभूमीवर विद्यार्थ्यांना व्यावहारिक आणि रोजगारक्षम प्रशिक्षण देण्यावर या संस्थेचा भर आहे.

अभ्यासक्रमात अॅनाटॉमी, फिजिओलॉजी, इलेक्ट्रोथेरपी, बायोमेकॅनिक्स, एक्सरसाईज थेरपी, ऑर्थोपेडिक न्यूरोलॉजी, मेडिकल अँड सर्जिकल कंडिशन तसेच इंग्रजी संभाषण हे मुख्य विषय समाविष्ट आहेत. याशिवाय मानसशास्त्र, अर्थशास्त्र, बिझनेस मॅथ्स, उद्योजकता, फिजिकल बायोलॉजी, अप्लाइड सायन्स, संगणक प्रणाली अशा विषयांमधून निवडक अभ्यासाची संधी उपलब्ध करून दिली जाते.

अनुभवी फिजिओथेरपिस्ट आणि तज्ज्ञ मार्गदर्शकांच्या मार्गदर्शनाखाली विद्यार्थ्यांना सैद्धांतिक ज्ञानाबरोबरच प्रत्यक्ष कामाचा अनुभव मिळेल अशा पद्धतीने प्रशिक्षण दिले जाते.

या अभ्यासक्रमासाठी किमान शैक्षणिक पात्रता दहावी उत्तीर्ण अशी आहे. दोन वर्षांच्या डिप्लोमा अभ्यासक्रमानंतर विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी पुढील शिक्षण आणि रोजगाराच्या विविध संधी उपलब्ध होतात.

अभ्यासक्रम पूर्ण केल्यानंतर विद्यार्थ्यांना मल्टीस्पेशालिटी खाजगी व सरकारी रुग्णालये, आरोग्य केंद्रे आणि पुनर्वसन क्षेत्रात काम करण्याची संधी मिळू शकते. तसेच जिम आणि फिटनेस केंद्रांमध्ये ट्रेनर म्हणूनही करिअरची दिशा मिळू शकते.
